The Board Chair of the female Journalist Association of Liberia (FeJAL) is calling on the larger society to publicly listen the outcry of women’s plight, noting that FeJAL as an organized organization will struggle to and report violence against women.
According to Madam Hartie Wurah Hunder, if female Journalist want to complete with their male counterpart they must strive for excellence in everything they do, and further encouraged female Journalist of Liberia to do away with a habit of thinking that they are women and stop depending mostly on the male in the Newsroom in News script preparation.
She also admonished female Journalist in Liberia to help built their own capacity, stating if women build their capacity they will l developed confident to speak out issues affecting them in society.
The Board chair of FEJAL asserted that a woman especially female Journalist will sometime find it very difficult to speak out on issues affecting them if her capacity is not built, because not know what exactly to speak on and how, but it’s only smoothly done when her capacity is will build.
Mrs. Hunnda however urged female Journalist of Liberia to report on issues affecting them in their workplace and others sectors to have a violence Free workplace.
She made the assertion over the weekend during the six retreat of the female Journalist Association of Liberia at the BWI Library annex in Kakata Margibi County.
The 6th retreat of FeJAL was held last weekend on the campus of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata, Margibi County, and brought together a cross section of Liberian female Journalist from across the country.
Also speaking at the day two retreat FEJAL President Siatta Scott Johnson said the significant from the past retreat has instituted reform which has accompany the process of institutional capacity building, while building the capacity of female Journalist in Liberia.
According to Mrs Johnson the media landscape in Liberia remains a cardinal platform for giving Liberians a voice to engage in reform, National development, reconciliation, democracy and good governance.
She intoned that the media like many others sectors in Liberia are seriously challenged, placing an example on the low capacity building of some female Journalist including insufficient broadcast equipment for female Journalist.
Madam Johnson also asserted that in some media institution Newsroom continue to be male dominance, indicating that female Journalist still struggling for leadership at all level.
She therefore admonished female Journalist in Liberia to remains focus on what exactly they are doing in the profession to complete with their male counterpart.
Madam Johnson said the just ended female Journalist Association of Liberia sixth retreat brought together media institution to discussed issues affecting them in the Newsroom both physical and psychological and designing strategy in finding solutions to those issues affecting them.
Meanwhile participants of the female Journalist Association of Liberia retreat described the retreat as eyes opener and an added knowledge to the profession, and call on partners to help build their capacity.
