Few weeks ago it was reported by this outlet that the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean had reportedly resigned his position, and that his boss, President George Manneh Weah had refused to accept it for unknown reasons, but the news has exploded that yes indeed the President has not given blessing to the Justice Minister’s quest to resign.
Recently, what was considered as a misunderstanding grew within the cabinet of the CDC led-government, specifically between the Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Eugene Fahngon and the Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia who is also the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean on the arrest of the owner of Roots FM 102.7, Henry Costa upon his arrival in Liberia.
This pronouncement made by Minister Fahngon during one of the Ministry of information regular press briefings, apparently did not go down well with the Justice Minister who sharply came on the defensive rejecting Minister Fahngon’s assertion, noting that as Justice Minister there had been no time that any arrest warrant was issued for Mr. Henry Costa, a political commentator and owner of the now closed Roots FM 102.7.
Another instance that also pondered many political analysts was the action taken by the Liberian leader, President George Werah on the replacement of Stipendiary Magistrate Ernest F. B. Bana of the Monrovia City Court, whose ruling on November 4, 2019 disagreed with argument by government lawyers in the writ to close-down the Roots FM 102.7 radio station.
This decision by the Liberian leader reportedly came about after Magistrate Bana openly disagreed with lawyers representing government to have the radio station shutdown and its equipment confiscated, which was executed on Thursday, October 10, 2019, Roots Holdings Incorporated, the parent company of Roots FM 102.7, filed a motion before the court asking it to return property and suppress evidence on grounds that these properties were illegally gathered without probable cause.
With all of these instances, some observers and political activists who spoke to the GNN in sampling interviews are surmising that the resignation of the Justice Minister could be his alleged dissatisfaction over all of these usual happenings.
