Dozens of Press Union of Liberia (PUL) members who have gathered in Gbarnga, Bong County are expected to go to the poll today to elect their officials for a three- year-term as their current President, Charles B. Coffey, Jr., tenue ends, but it seems such occasion today will be disrupted amid the arrival of a court documents from a contending candidate for the Union’s presidency.
Two presidential candidates in the race include Daniel Nyakonah, the current Vice President and Julius Kanubah an employee of Internews over the past weeks have been campaigning to win their supporters in a bid for the presidency which has been scheduled to take place today.
However, Team Kanubah has resolved to boycott today’s election requesting that the voters’ roll of the current listings of membership be cleaned, and further alleged that several irregularities have been engulfed the process including the alleged listings of individuals who are not journalists, while others listed have not been qualified to vote as full members during today’s election.
For its part, the membership committee in its reaction justified that the voters’ roll has since been cleaned, and that all has been set today’s election for the Press Union of Liberia, but the Team Kanubah in order to justify its action, a writ from the Court was issued to the President of the Union, Mr. Charles Coffey placing an injunction on the process.
But in the face of this court orders, some members at the PUL Congress told our staff that they resolved to resist any order that will stop the process today for the election of their officials.
