China To Erect Electronic Billboard In Monrovia, As As MICAT Releases Detail For July 26 Independence Day Celebration

The Chinese Government has launched the construction of a “state-of-the-art” Electronic Billboard in Monrovia.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony at the Executive Pavilion in Monrovia Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador Fu Jijun disclosed that the billboard will be erected at the Executive Pavilion to inform Liberians about the day-to-day activities of the government.

He noted that the billboard is important in this new era of globalization and information sharing in which the public has high expectations of government for the latest messages concerning national developments.

He added that visual media is pivotal and has become a very useful tool in conveying current news to the society, entertaining the people, shaping public opinion and strengthening the society.

The Chinese envoy outlined some of the numerous contributions China has made to Liberia, including the collaboration of the Xinhua News Agency and the Liberian media, construction of a ministerial complex, and provision of free treatment at and medication to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, among others.

He reassured his government’s commitment to the development agenda of the Liberian government and support to the achievement of the goals of the Pro-Poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity.

In remarks, the Assistant Minister for Information Services at the Ministry of Information, Samuel Worzie, lauded the People’s Republic of China for its numerous contributions to the growth and development of Liberia.

He added that the erection of the electronic billboard is a clear manifestation of President Weah’s commitment to the Open Government Initiative, noting that it will go a long way in disseminating factual and reliable information to the people.

For his part, the Executive Director of Daily Talks, Mr. Alfred Sirleaf, thanked the People’s Republic of China for the kind gesture, stating that the initiative began in 2016 with numerous appeals for the implementation of the project.

He also lauded the efforts exhibited by officials of the Ministry of Information in ensuing that the project became successful.

Afterwards, the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, the Liberia Crusaders for Peace, etc will hold a Musical&Cultural Festival,involving Liberian musicians, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

The sermon of the Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service will be delivered, by Archbishop Dr. Isaac S. Winker, a son of Sinoe County and General Overseer and Archbishop of the Dominion Christian Fellowship. During the service, there ill be selections by various choirs and Prayers for the Nation.

Ceremonies in observance of the 171st Independence will be held on Thursday, July 26, which will commence with the hoisting of the national flag. Follow by the President of Liberia and Commander-In-Chief inspecting troops of the Armed Forces of Liberia, amongst other special protocols, (see attached). The Cabinet will also be in attendance. 

Subsequently, the official programme in observance of the 171st Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Liberia will begin at 11 O’clock ante meridian at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion on Ashmun Street, Monroviaat which time the National Oration will be delivered on the theme, “Unifying The Nation For Pro-poor Development”, by Honorable Samuel D. Tweah, Minister Finance and Development Planning of the Republic of Liberia. Afterward, he will be decorated by the President of the Republic of Liberia. 

After the official program, luncheons will be hosted at various venues around Montserrado County. This will be followed by the Independence Day Ball to be hosted by the President of the Republic of Liberia.
