Every two year, more than 150 member countries at the IMO assemble to elect a team of 40 council members who make decision for the IMO.
Losing a seat on the IMO’s Council means Liberia who has the second largest ship registry globally (about 4,400 plus) is now effectively rendered a floor member of the IMO with no power to make decisions.
This is another shame we clearly masterminded by the CDC government’s failure to support the IMO program. Evidently, the government has refused to pay its IMO mission employees for more than ten months.
The George Weah led administration has also allegedly seized the diplomatic passport of its Permanent Representative to the IMO, Ambassador Isaac Jackson, Jr., including those of his family despite a Supreme Court mandate which ordered the Government to issue Jackson and family passports.
The blatant refusal to issue the passport incapacitated Ambassador Jackson to attend meetings out of London and lobby for votes for Liberia allegedly gave rise to this latest development.
