WAEC Liberia Debunks Fake WASSCE Reports, Announces August Release Date

MONROVIA – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia has formally announced that the official results for the 2024-2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released between August 12 and 14, 2025.

WAEC Liberia Head Dale G. Gbotoe announced during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT). He used the platform to strongly refute widespread rumors on social media and local radio stations claiming that the results had already been published.

“WAEC Liberia wishes to clarify to the general public, especially the candidates, parents, and school administrators, that no results of the 2024-2025 WASSCE have been released,” Gbotoe stated. “All reports and social media posts suggesting that the results are out are completely false and misleading. We are yet to complete all procedural requirements leading to the official release of the results.”

Gbotoe explained that the examination body is meticulously working through a process of verification and validation to ensure the accuracy, credibility, and transparency of the final results, which he said adheres to international standards.

He detailed the official protocol for the release, noting that the results must first be presented to the Ministry of Education and then to the Office of the President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, before being made public.

“We cannot and will not bypass official procedures,” Gbotoe said. “Only after these necessary protocols are completed will WAEC Liberia proceed to publicly release the results.”

The official public release will take place at MICAT during a press conference slated for either Tuesday, August 12, or Thursday, August 14.

Gbotoe expressed concern over the growing trend of misinformation regarding exam results, warning that it creates unnecessary panic and anxiety among students and parents. He urged everyone to remain patient and rely only on official communications from WAEC Liberia and the Ministry of Education.

He also acknowledged logistical challenges faced during this year’s WASSCE but assured the public that the council is on schedule to finalize all processes in time for the announced release dates.

“This year’s WASSCE represents yet another opportunity for WAEC Liberia to demonstrate its capacity to conduct credible assessments that meet international standards,” Gbotoe remarked. He encouraged students to remain calm and optimistic, promising that their hard work would be rewarded with credible results that reflect their true performance.

Gbotoe also called on media institutions to cross-check information with WAEC Liberia’s official channels before publishing, emphasizing the importance of responsible reporting to prevent the spread of misinformation. He praised the strong working relationship with the Ministry of Education, highlighting their shared commitment to ensuring the integrity of Liberia’s educational assessment system.
