Monrovia, Liberia – A delegation from the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC) met with members of the House of Representatives today to provide clarity and address “misinformation” surrounding rumors of same-sex marriage and an ongoing property dispute.
The delegation, which appeared before the committee mediating the issues, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to present factual information and combat what it described as misinformation being circulated by individuals from other denominations amidst the dispute.
The LAC/UMC delegation confirmed that it has already submitted all necessary documents and materials to the committee, chaired by Hon. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan of Grand Gedeh County. These documents are intended to assist lawmakers in their investigation and serve as official references for future discussions.
Former River Gee County Senator Comany Wesseh, speaking on behalf of the delegation, reiterated the LAC/UMC’s unwavering commitment to the biblical definition of marriage, as well as to the laws of the Republic of Liberia.
Following extensive deliberations, the committee rescheduled another hearing for Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church assured its members, the government, and the general public of its continued commitment to truth, transparency, and the peaceful resolution of these matters, while faithfully upholding both spiritual and legal principles in its ministry across Liberia.
