UNITED CITIZENS OF NIMBA CONDEMN POLICE INSPECTOR GENERAL GREGORY COLEMAN FOR UNWARRANTED ATTACKS ON SENATOR SAMUEL G. KOGAR

We, the law-abiding members of the United Citizens of Nimba for Peace and Progress, both at home and in the diaspora, issue this formal statement to vehemently condemn the recent disrespectful, unprofessional, and unwarranted statements made by the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Col. Gregory Coleman, directed at our esteemed leader, Senator Samuel G. Kogar.

As a prominent member of the Liberian Senate, Senator Kogar was acting strictly within his constitutional mandate of legislative oversight during the recent public hearing regarding the deeply concerning US$19.2 million cocaine seizure at the Roberts International Airport. His call for the suspension of security chiefs aimed at safeguarding public trust and ensuring an uncompromised, independent investigation represents the exact kind of rigorous accountability the Liberian people deserve. For the Inspector General of Police to respond with personal animosity and inflammatory language against a sitting Senator is an affront not only to the office Senator Kogar occupies but also to the over 300,000 voters of Nimba County whom he represents.

Our primary concern rests on the severe erosion of legislative oversight, as the security architecture must remain fully accountable to the legislature. Attempts by the head of police to intimidate or publicly disparage lawmakers for asking tough questions severely undermine the fundamental principle of checks and balances. Furthermore, this behavior serves as a dangerous diversion from the core issue. Rather than engaging in personal media battles, the total focus of the Liberia National Police and the joint security apparatus should remain entirely on transparently prosecuting the transnational drug enterprise currently threatening our national security. We also view this as a direct disrespect to Nimba County, because an attack on our representative is an attack on our collective dignity, and we will not sit idly while our democratically elected leaders are subjected to public disrespect for performing their national duties.

In light of these actions, we present three clear demands to rectify the situation. First, we demand an immediate, unreserved public apology from Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman to Senator Samuel G. Kogar and, by extension, the people of Nimba County. Second, we urge the Liberia National Police to redirect its energy toward providing absolute clarity on the Roberts International Airport drug trafficking saga, ensuring that major actors are not shielded from justice. Third, we call on His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to look into the conduct of the Police Inspector General and reinforce professional decorum within state security leadership.

The United Citizens of Nimba for Peace and Progress remains deeply committed to the rule of law, national peace, and institutional transparency. However, we insist that public officials must govern themselves with the professional ethics and respect required of their high offices.
