MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The U.S. Embassy in Liberia has announced that Joseph E. Zadrozny has been appointed as the new Chargé d’Affaires. A seasoned career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Zadrozny began his tenure as Deputy Chief of Mission in July 2025 and took on the role of Chargé d’Affaires in August 2025.
Zadrozny brings a wealth of international experience to his new position. Before his assignment in Liberia, he served as Management Counselor in Abuja, Nigeria, from 2023 to 2025. He also has significant leadership experience from his time as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in Port Moresby, where he oversaw U.S. diplomatic relations with Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu from April 2022 to August 2023.
His extensive career includes numerous diplomatic posts across the globe. He has served as Consul General in Wuhan, China, and held three other assignments in the country at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and the U.S. Consulates General in Shanghai and Shenyang. Zadrozny has also served in Germany (Berlin and Frankfurt), Uzbekistan (Tashkent), and Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar).
Before joining the Foreign Service in 1998, Zadrozny worked with the Peace Corps, starting as a Volunteer in Mongolia and later serving as a staff member in both Washington and Honiara, Solomon Islands.
A native of Houston, Texas, Zadrozny is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is a skilled linguist, fluent in French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Mongolian, and Russian.
