Maryland County, Liberia – August 26, 2025 — In a powerful demonstration of community support, thousands of Maryland County residents gathered on August 25, 2025, to formally petition Honorable Eric W. Giko to contest the 2029 senatorial elections. Despite heavy rainfall, citizens marched under the banner, “Maryland County Deserves Better with Honorable Eric W. Giko,” voicing their appeal for new leadership.
The event, which drew elders, youth, community leaders, and civil society members, was a testament to the passionate desire for change. Petitioners cited Hon. Giko’s integrity, commitment to development, and people-centered leadership as reasons for their support.
In their formal petition, the residents wrote, “We, the undersigned residents of Maryland County, wholeheartedly petition Honorable Eric W. Giko to run as a Senatorial candidate in the upcoming 2029 elections. We believe that he is the best individual to represent our county and lead us into a prosperous future.”
Organizers praised Giko for his consistent engagement with local communities, even while residing in the United States. Sarah Momo, a youth advocate who helped organize the event, stated, “Hon. Eric W. Giko has consistently engaged all sectors of our community. His deep understanding of our struggles, coupled with a vision that resonates across our diverse population, makes him the right leader at the right time.”
Supporters pointed to Giko’s efforts to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors in Maryland County, highlighting his initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth and job creation. Peter Wesseh, a teacher from Harper District, said, “He doesn’t just make promises—he delivers.”
The petition was received by the coordinator of Team Eric W. Giko, Mr. Alex Bai Davies, who assured the crowd that their voices would be heard. “This is not just a petition—it’s a movement,” Davies said. “The people of Maryland County are speaking loud and clear: they want change, and they want Hon. Eric W. Giko to lead that change.”
Responding from his current residence in the United States via a heartfelt Facebook post, Hon. Giko expressed his gratitude. “I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Marylanders who took the time to petition me today, August 25, 2025, in anticipation of the 2029 election, despite the inclement weather. I am deeply humbled and invigorated by your efforts,” he wrote.
Hon. Giko concluded his message by promising to return to Maryland County soon to formally acknowledge the petition and engage with constituents directly. This early show of support marks a significant development in the county’s political landscape, indicating a strong desire for accountable and visionary leadership.
