MONROVIA — Incoming Representative of Electoral District #9 in Montserrado County, Sie D. Anderson, has renovated and officially reopened a public latrine in Wroto Town, Airfield, Sinkor, as part of efforts to improve sanitation, public health, and living conditions for residents.
The reopening ceremony took place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, bringing together community leaders, elders, women, youth groups, residents, and representatives from key sanitation institutions. The updated facility is expected to provide community members with immediate, reliable access to a safe and hygienic public sanitation amenity.
Anderson funded the project in direct response to the critical sanitation challenges confronting Wroto Town. Community leaders revealed that residents had lacked a functional public toilet for several years, forcing many to resort to unsafe practices such as open defecation and the use of plastic bags.
Chief Elder and Chairman of the Wroto Town Community, Elder John D. Newbell, expressed deep gratitude to Anderson for addressing the community’s urgent needs, describing the renovation as a timely intervention that will foster a healthier living environment. Community Chairman Washington K. Kawala also stressed the project’s vital role in safeguarding public health, acknowledging the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) for supervising technical aspects of the project and supporting municipal water services.
The event drew notable attendees, including Edward H. Lahai, Commissioner of Congo Township, alongside representatives from WaterAid Liberia and the LWSC. Their presence highlighted the essential role of multi-stakeholder collaboration among grassroots leaders, public utilities, international partners, and residents in resolving urban infrastructure deficits.
During the program, Anderson thanked the people of Wroto Town for their cooperation throughout the renovation process. He urged the community to take direct ownership of the facility, emphasizing that its long-term viability depends on proper maintenance and collective responsibility.
Affirming his commitment to human-centered development, Anderson stated that his broader vision for Electoral District #9 focuses on youth empowerment, infrastructure expansion, and expanded public services. To ensure immediate operational maintenance, Team Anderson presented essential sanitation supplies to the community, including washing buckets, floor disinfectants, Clorox, cleaning cloths, and soap.
He highlighted several ongoing infrastructure projects across the district, including the construction of a mini basketball court and the renovation of a community bus stop in Old Matadi, as well as repair work on the Fanti Town Bridge in New Matadi. Anderson maintained that effective leadership must be demonstrated through practical actions that directly improve constituents’ everyday lives.
