River Gee County Senator Conmany Wesseh has underscored the need for enhanced patriotism in the absence of a war crimes court in the country.
Speaking on a local talk show recently, Senator Wesseh said that war crimes court is not the only way to meet justice as there are other healthier ways to solve national issues.
He said that August makes it fifteen years of peace since the war ended in 2003 that took former President Charles Taylor out of the country.
The Senator also said that because the country wanted to do away with a war crimes court that was why they had an agreement to establish the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in order for Liberians to reconcile their grievances from the war.
He applauded former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her robust role played as a woman in maintaining the peace over the years and urged others to follow those good examples for the recovery of Liberia.
Senator Wesseh further said during the days of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA) of former Chairman Gyude Bryant, he chaired the committee on peace and national reconciliation, adding that it was that committee which drafted the TRC law that was passed by the NTLA.
The National Transitional Assembly was Liberia’s Legislative body during the country’s transition from civil war to democratic rule from October 2003 to January 2006.
