A member of the Liberian Senate, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Moye has publicly condemned the leadership of the Liberia National Police (LNP) for its alleged disrespect to the Minister of Justice who is also Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia for reportedly downplaying the orders of the Minister of Justice for the release of Mo Ali.
According to sources closed to the Ministry of Justice, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean last Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 5pm ordered the Liberia National Police top brass to release opposition Unity Party Secretary General, Mo Ali who was detained by the police, but instead this order was not adhered to.
The Minister in his call to the police, also urged the police to provide evidence that gave rise to the detention of the Unity Party official, but this call by the Minister did not also get any redress from the police as his request.
But the order of the Justice Minister was not reportedly adhered to by the police, instead it was alleged that the police took another order for what it called ‘highest up’, a situation that drew serious misunderstanding between the police and the Justice Minister, as Mr. Ali was released at 4am instead of the 5pm ultimatum given by the Minister.
Senator Moye of Bong County speaking to journalists blasted on the authority of the Liberia National Police for not adhering to the order of the Minister of Justice, who is also the Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, and also the police immediate boss.
He said such action by the police headed by Col. Patrick Sudue did not give the Justice Minister a due respective as the chief prosecutor of Liberia, and condemned authority at the Liberia National Police.
