President Boakai Reaffirms Liberia’s Commitment as ECOWAS Court Kicks Off Sensitization Mission

MONROVIA President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., yesterday received the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Honorable Justice Ricardo Claudio Monteiro Gonçalves, at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia

Justice Gonçalves led a high-powered delegation that included the Vice President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, the Chief Registrar, and the Director of Administration and Finance.

The delegation is in Liberia as part of a crucial outreach and sensitization mission. The mission’s primary goal is to increase public awareness of the Court’s mandate, jurisprudence, and operations throughout the ECOWAS subregion.

These engagements are designed to enhance the understanding of the Court’s fundamental role in promoting justice and upholding the rule of law across all member states.

President Boakai warmly welcomed the delegation and strongly reaffirmed Liberia’s unwavering commitment to the principles and instruments of ECOWAS. He emphasized Liberia’s dedication to honoring decisions and protocols emanating from the Court, stating simply, “We believe in ECOWAS.”

Furthermore, the President informed the visiting delegation that the Government of Liberia has already established a communication mechanism to educate its citizens on the role and functions of the regional judicial body. This initiative aims to ensure Liberians are better informed about the ECOWAS Court of Justice’s work and its impact on member states.

The ECOWAS Court of Justice is the principal legal organ of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), mandated to interpret and apply the provisions of the ECOWAS Treaty and other legal instruments adopted by the regional body.
