WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has continued his diplomatic mission in the United States with a high-level meeting aimed at strengthening Liberia’s historic relationship with the U.S. government.
During the meeting in Washington, D.C., President Boakai held substantive discussions with Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, United States Representative for New York’s Fifth Congressional District and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The engagement formed part of President Boakai’s broader effort to deepen Liberia’s diplomatic relations, attract greater trade and investment, and secure international partnerships that directly support the nation’s development agenda.
President Boakai outlined his administration’s key priorities, including democratic governance, peace and security, economic transformation, energy expansion, infrastructure development, and job creation. He emphasized that Liberia’s sustained period of political stability must now yield tangible improvements in the daily lives of its citizens through stronger public institutions and increased private sector investment.
The leaders also discussed Liberia’s term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2026–2027, highlighting the importance of continued Liberia–U.S. alignment in promoting regional peace, global security, and effective multilateral diplomacy.
Given Congressman Meeks’ influence as Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, the meeting carried significant weight. Both parties reaffirmed the deep historical ties connecting the two nations while focusing on practical cooperation across trade, energy, infrastructure, security, and institutional reform.
President Boakai was accompanied to the meeting by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Affairs Minister and Dean of the Cabinet Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister Without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, Director General of the Cabinet Nathaniel T. Kwabo, and Executive Assistant to the President Morie Nemah.
As his official engagements in the United States proceed, President Boakai maintained that while Liberia deeply values its long-standing friendship with the United States, the relationship must evolve into an active development partnership that delivers lasting benefits for both nations.
