President Boakai Acknowledges Resignation of NEC Chairperson; Requests Continuity Through March 31

Executive Mansion, Monrovia –: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has formally acknowledged the resignation of Honorable Davidetta Browne Lansanah as Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC).

In her communication to the President, Hon. Browne Lansanah stated that her decision followed consultations with her family and was guided by a desire to take time off after more than twelve years of service to the Commission, first as Commissioner and subsequently assuming the Chairmanship. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Republic and her great delight for ensuring a smooth transition within the Institution. The effective date for her resignation, she noted, was March 15, 2026.

President Boakai commended Hon. Browne Lansanah for her dedicated and exemplary service, noting that her tenure significantly contributed to strengthening Liberia’s electoral framework. He emphasized that her leadership played a vital role in enhancing the credibility, stability, and institutional integrity of the nation’s democratic processes.

While accepting her resignation, the President has requested that Hon. Browne Lansanah continue to oversee, manage, and coordinate the affairs of the NEC through March 31, 2026, to facilitate a seamless and orderly transition.

The President further indicated that he will, in keeping with the Constitution and applicable statutory provisions, initiate the process of nominating a successor.

President Boakai extended his sincere appreciation to Hon. Browne Lansanah for her invaluable service to the Republic of Liberia and wished her continued success in her future endeavors.
