Liberian Studies Association Honors Ambassador Al-Hassan Conteh for Contributions to Scholarship and Diplomacy

Washington D.C., May 29, 2025 – The Liberian Studies Association (LSA) of the USA recently honored Ambassador Al-Hassan Conteh, Liberia’s Ambassador to the United States, for his significant past contributions as President of the LSA and former editor of the Liberian Studies Journal.

The heartfelt ceremony occurred on May 27, 2025, at the Ambassador’s office within the Embassy in Washington D.C. Key attendees included Deputy Chief of Mission Isaac C. Yeah, Sr., and Minister Counselor for Press and Public Affairs Al-Jerome Anastas Chede Sr.

Dr. Herbert Brewer, co-host of the 56th LSA Conference and Professor of History at Morgan State University, lauded Ambassador Conteh for his invaluable contributions to scholarship on Liberia. In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Brewer presented Ambassador Conteh with a plaque symbolizing his “continued commitment to the advancement of Liberian scholarship.” Dr. Brewer emphasized that this award celebrates not only Conteh’s scholarly accomplishments but also his diplomatic achievements over the years.

In his acceptance remarks, Ambassador Conteh expressed deep gratitude to the LSA for the honor.
