LIBERIA: Police In Grand Bassa Assures Candidates, Stakeholders of Impartial Protection Amidst 2020 Midterm Election

At a Daylong assembly organized by the Liberia National Police in Buchanan, the Commander of the Grand Bassa County Detachment, Sarkoh Freeman has committed the LNP to an impartial involvement as the Country undergoes Electoral period.

Commander Freeman commitment was captured in a speech delivered on Wednesday, October 7 in Buchanan when the Police interfaced with Six of the Eight Candidates participating in the County Senatorial competition to replace Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence along with other Stakeholders to discuss mutual Co-existance and the need to maintain the Peace despite Political beliefs.

Candidates Dave Dixon, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, Vincent T. Willie, Charles P. VAH and Magdalene Harris were represented as well as the Assistant Election Magistrate of the County, IE Smith, Zonal Council members, Community Watch Forum leadership and the Motorcyclists Union also formed part of the engagement held at the Bassa Youth Caucus Office on the Fairground in Buchanan.

Extensively, Pastor Isaac Ceegar represented Candidate Findley, while Onesimus Bloepogar Coopral served as Proxy for Candidate Willie as Samuel Togar Weah stood for Candidate Charles Vah; in similar suit, Philip Johnson and George Gaybueh represented Candidate Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, Candidate Magdalene Harris had Zuu Menyon; while Nipoleon proxy for Dave Dixon.

From the end of the Police, the Deputy for Operation, Chief Superintendent Uriah Brooks Zukruah, Inspector J. Philip Gongar, Head of Community Services Section and other senior officers joint Commander Freeman for the conduct of the meeting.

At the gathering, Commander Freeman told participants that each Candidate will have two Officers of the LNP assigned with Him or Her for protection, while the Political players are under obligation to submit Campaign schedule as the Political moment kicks off on 10, October.

 

He further challenged Candidates and their supporters to report any Officer caught getting involved with Politics, but warned against verbal accusation raised against the Detachment and it’s personnel without facts.

The Candidates who were represented by their Campaign Team leadership; in a synchronized manner, described the assembly as essential and worthy initiative undertaken by the Police; stating further “Liberia must be placed above self-agenda”.

While they vowed to ensure a non-violent approach during Campaign Activities, fear was also expressed by some of them over the possibility of Election Commission non-bias handling of the PROCESS thus referencing the recent Voter Role Update and alleged verbal threats said to be coming from some unnamed “Electoral Supervisors” toward them individually.

At the same time, the Six Candidates agreed to prioritize the dissemination of Non-violent Election Messages on their respective Radio Programs and at every Political gathering that would be organized under their watch.

The assembly is part of the State Security (LNP) Electoral strategies labeled “Yes To Peace, No To Violence” as means of preventing a tension parked environment as Liberians gear up to retain or replace fifteen Senators across the Country; Commander Freeman narrated.

It was also clarified by the Commander that the assigned Officers will not be used by Politicians to perpetrate wrong act against peaceful Citizens, adding the Security personnel should be treated with due regard during the discharge of their duty.

Also addressing the audience, the Assistant Election Magistrate of Grand Bassa, IE Smith alleviated the fear of the Contestants when He said “our doors are opened for complaints and other recommendations for the handling of the Election as such, there is a need to trust the Commission beyond perception; stating further “Liberia is all we have”.

Magistrate Smith equally dispelled Rumor that UNDP has constructed Fence around the Commission Local Office for the purpose of encouraging cheating, he said the Information is far below reality; clarifying that such project is meant to strengthen the security component of holding Election.

Meanwhile, the Police Boss of Grand Bassa additionally revealed that Media Practitioners, Youth Institutions, Disabled Community and other Stakeholders will be engaged as the Nation draws closer to the December 8 scheduled Election.
