The House of Representatives under the stewardship of Maryland County District #2 lawmaker, and Speaker of the 54th Legislature, has called on the Executive Branch of the Liberian Government, headed by Dr. George M. Weah as President, to partner in reshaping the Country’s economic architecture with investors in the areas of extraction of mineral such as iron ore, gold, diamond timber, etc.
The Liberian Constitution provides for the coexistence of three branches of Government and further dictates, that they should be distinct, but coordinate. The constitution rates the Legislature as the first, followed by the Executive and the Judiciary.
The House in its Communication to the Executive stated that some of those agreements, protocols, conventions, and treaties that involve bilateral and multilateral partners with the State need to be reviewed to match the changing times, considering the best interest of the People.
The People’s Deputies said consistent with the spirit of coordination for sustainable socio-economic development of the Liberian people and Government, the Leadership of the Honorable House of Representatives further directs to the President of the Republic of Liberia and Head of the Executive for his timely consideration in reviewing those Concession Agreements; especially those that have exceeded the review period.
Some of the Agreements to be reviewed will include; APM Terminal, Global Logistics Services, Nimba Rubber Corporation, Cavalla Rubber Corporation, Liberia Agricultural Company, Firestone Rubber Plantation, Equatorial Palm Oil, Golden Veroleum, Maryland Oil Palm Plantation, and several others.
The Legislature being the fulcrum of the Liberian democracy has pledged its commitment to working with other branches of government in the interest of the State.
