Liberia and France are taking decisive steps to deepen their historical alliance following a high-level diplomatic summit at the Embassy of Liberia in Paris. Host Ambassador H.E. Dr. Teeko Tozay Yorlay, Sr., met with France’s newly appointed Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Dominique Pierre Delpuech, for a broad series of consultations aimed at elevating political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
At the core of the discussions was a shared desire to intensify direct political dialogue and unlock new commercial opportunities. Both envoys prioritized expanding trade and attracting fresh French investment into Liberia’s emerging markets. Crucial to this economic drive are the final preparations for the upcoming MEDEF International business mission to Liberia, a development that signals strong, growing interest among French enterprise leaders in building robust commercial partnerships across the country.
Beyond trade, the diplomats addressed key multilateral engagements designed to broaden Liberia’s international reach. The conversation highlighted Liberia’s involvement in the Paris Peace Forum, a global platform dedicated to collaborative governance, as well as the strategic value of Liberia’s observer status within the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. Deepening ties with the Francophone world provides Liberia with unique cultural and diplomatic avenues to strengthen its standing across West Africa and globally.
Looking ahead, Ambassadors Yorlay and Delpuech exchanged perspectives on arranging reciprocal high-level diplomatic visits, including the potential for a historical official visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Liberia. Such a visit would mark a significant milestone in Liberia–France relations, paving the way for expanded agreements in development, infrastructure, and bilateral trade.
Concluding their session, both ambassadors reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuous diplomatic engagement, pledging to convert the long-standing, friendly relationship between Liberia and France into an actionable, dynamic partnership focused on economic growth and people-to-people connections.
