The Head of the International Quizzing Association, Madam Jane Allen has welcomed the increased visibility of quizzers and quizzing at all levels of Liberian society, including in decision-making roles in the government of His Excellency President George Manneh Weah. Madam Allen was speaking in Geneva recently where she had gone to confer with the representative of the IQA in Liberia since 2005, Atty. Phil Tarpeh Dixon, who as Deputy Minister at Liberia’s Ministry of Labor, was attending the Centenary Conference of the ILO in Geneva. In the same vein, the IQA has called on Liberian quizzers to continue to be engaged in local and international quiz competitions and events which will inspire the new generation towards studiousness, focus and exemplary behavior.
In return, Atty. Phil Tarpeh Dixon welcomed the special attention the IQA had shown to the progress of its member states and individuals, as well as providing a platform where persons interested in the game from different parts of the world can share their collective experiences and strategies to lead to mutual advancement. He added that since becoming a part of the IQA, the Liberian body has been involved in organizing multiple events which have not just advanced the spread of knowledge but also developed spirit of teamwork and unity amongst thousands of Liberians who have been involved in its competitions and trainings.
In her concluding remarks, Madam Allen recounted the role of Liberia as the first African nation to join the IQA and invited the national body to be more robust in providing leadership to quizzing activities in the region and beyond. She also pledged the support of the IQA to Liberia’s participation in those IQA events in which it has been absent, to include the International Quizzing Olympiad, Hot 100 and other competitions.
The meeting closed with a mutual reaffirmation of both parties to the development of quizzing as a mind sport, increasing its appeal amongst the general population and the bringing of the World Quizzing Championship or a derivative thereof to global television broadcast.
