Grand Kru Liberation Movement PRO Denies $400 Bribery Allegation from Senator Bartekwa

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Public Relations Officer of the Grand Kru Liberation Movement, a prominent civil society organization in southeastern Liberia, has categorically refuted allegations of bribery involving Senator Numene Bartekwa. In a press release issued on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Jefferson Sayee, a youth member from the county’s Electoral District Number One, accused Terrence Koffa Chew Koffa of allegedly accepting four hundred United States dollars (US$400.00) from the Senator to abandon his critical political stance against local authorities.

According to Sayee, Koffa—who is recognized as a leading advocate for social justice and economic empowerment in Grand Kru—has remained uncharacteristically silent regarding Senator Bartekwa’s office for several months. The District One youth representative expressed deep concern over this sudden change in behavior, noting that many citizens in the county have placed their faith in Koffa’s vigorous advocacy to drive transformative changes at the local level.

Responding to the allegations in an interview with Grand Kru TV News on Saturday, Terrence Koffa expressed astonishment at the claims. The executive of the county liberation movement characterized the information provided by Jefferson Sayee as inaccurate, highly misleading, and entirely baseless. He asserted that the accusations are intended to distract from real issues and should not be given any significant public consideration.

The Communications Director of the Movement further clarified that at no time did Koffa receive financial contributions or benefits from the senator, contrary to what he described as rumors being circulated by a small group of misinformed youths. Koffa firmly asserted his unwavering commitment to advocating for the advancement and development of Grand Kru County, insisting that no amount of money would ever compromise his efforts to champion the interests of the public.

Mr. Koffa urged those involved in disseminating the claims to cease spreading negative propaganda aimed at tarnishing his hard-earned reputation within the district. He emphasized that the progressive development of the county remains his primary focus and that any attempts to impede his advocacy through character assassination would ultimately fail.

Addressing his recent period of inactivity, Koffa explained that his lack of commentary on local and national matters should not be misconstrued as a sign of bribery or compromise. Instead, he noted that his relative silence stems from being on a self-imposed sabbatical leave. He maintained that his temporary withdrawal from the spotlight was not influenced by any political actors and concluded by stating that through unity and strength, Grand Kru County will eventually achieve its liberation.

As of press time, the office of Senator Numene Bartekwa has yet to issue a public statement regarding the matter.
