GOL, Public Sector Workers Agreed On MOU Extension

Press Release

Moibah K. Johnson , President of the Civil Servant Association of Liberia

The Government of Liberia (GOL) and the leaderships of public sector workers have agreed on the extension of a Memorandum of Understand (MOU) by three months (August-October 2021) after the initial MOU expired on July 18, 2021.

According to a press statement released over the weekend and signed by both representatives of the government and the leaderships of various public sectors groupings, the initial MOU which was aimed at addressing eleven-count issues raised by the public sector workers earlier this year, succeeded in addressing many of the grievances by 53 percent.

The GOL officials who signed the press statement include the Ministers of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel Tweah;  Education Minister, Prof. Ansu Sonii; Health Minister, Wilhemina Jallah; and the Director General of the Civil Service Agency Mr. James Thompson thus committing government to address the outstanding issues within the period of extension, August- October.

The statement which was read by the President of the Civil Servant Association of Liberia         (CSAL) Mr. Moibah K. Johnson acknowledged government’s commitment in addressing the plights of public sector workers saying this is evident by the 53 percent accomplishment of grievances presented in the MOU to government in March this year.

Mr. Johnson intoned that the decision to extend the MOU by additional three months is in the spirit of continuous constructive engagements with the government as government continued to demonstrated wiliness and non-confrontational posture in addressing pivotal issues being faced by public sector workers.

“We are also grateful that this collaboration with government signifies a success story of mutual and collective engagement which we urged all citizens and institutions to emulate as a means of conflict resolution and problem solving for mama-Liberia” Mr. Johnson asserted.

He maintained that while the two parties (GOL and Consortium of Public Sector Workers) take cognizance of the progress being made as it relates to the implementation of the MOU, Public Sector Workers look forward with optimism that government would accelerate the implementation of the outstanding issues in order to put smiles on the faces of government workers.

Leaders of the Consortium of Public Sector Workers who signed for the extension of the MOU include the Presidents of the National Teachers’ Association of Liberia, Mary Mulbah-Nyemah; National Health Worker Union of Liberia, Joseph S. Tamba; Monrovia Consolidated School System Teachers’ Association, Augustine N. Nyonmui; Civil Servant Association of Liberia, Moibah K. Johnson and National Parents Teachers Network of Liberia, J. Mason Saweler.
