According to reports, the Americans raised security concerns citing the possibility of radicalized Jordanians penetrating and bypassing security protocols at the airport, thereby putting travelers’ lives at risk.
Fly Liberia Inc., has been at the center of a contract controversy for a while now, with the Liberian public raising contention about the manner in which an airport handling contract was awarded to them.
The Compnay which has all Jordanian incorporators, was only registered and incorporated on January 30, 2019, but was awarded a contract by the Liberian Government through the Liberia Airport Authority on February 2, 2019.
Meanwhile, minutes from a January 30, 2019 Board meeting, the same day that Fly Liberia was incorporated, indicates that President Weah instructed then Board Chair of the LAA, Bishop Alan Klayee to make sure that Fly Liberia be awarded the Ground Handling Services Management Contract on a single source basis. Bishop Klayee, according to the minutes informed the Liberian President that the awarding of such contract had to meet the consensus of the Board.
The minutes further stated that the President was informed by Bishop Klayee that the Board did not have any information about the company. Minister McGill, according to the minutes, gave copies of the contract to Bishop Klayee for the purpose of convening an emergency Board meeting to pass a Resolution for the contract to be signed.
