PAYNESVILLE – The Government of Liberia has officially unveiled plans for the construction of the country’s first-ever dedicated maternity hospital, marking a major milestone in the nation’s healthcare development.

The state-of-the-art facility is set to be built in the Duport Road area of Paynesville City. The official launch was commemorated during a groundbreaking ceremony led by the First Lady of Liberia, Kartumu Yarta Boakai.

The ambitious project was formally presented by the Minister of Health, Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, who unveiled the comprehensive architectural design of the proposed maternity hospital. Crucially, the Health Minister confirmed that funding for the entire construction process has already been fully secured, ensuring the project can move forward without financial delays.

Health officials have described the initiative as a transformative step toward improving maternal and neonatal healthcare services across Liberia. By creating a centralized environment equipped with advanced medical technology, the new facility is expected to provide specialized, high-quality care for pregnant women and newborns. Ultimately, the hospital aims to drastically reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, which have long been a critical challenge for the nation.

Speaking during the announcement, Minister Kpoto expressed immense optimism about the project and underscored the current administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for all Liberians. Celebrating the achievement, she noted that citizens should expect more of such developments moving forward, declaring, “So, so good news. Get used to it. The proposed Duport Road Maternity Hospital.”

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the formal beginning of construction for what is expected to become a landmark health institution in Liberia. Once completed, the Duport Road Maternity Hospital will directly address long-standing gaps in specialized maternal healthcare services, offering a safer and more reliable medical resource for families across the country.
