With about 50% preliminary results of last Tuesday’s elections declared by Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC), a presidential run-off vote is in prospect in two weeks’ time in the country.
In the 2017 run-off, Weah, now 57, of then opposition CDC defeated Boakai, 78, of then ruling UP, by 61% to 38% of the vote.
A run-off vote holds on the second Tuesday after release of the final results if no candidate met the constitutional requirements in the first round.
