Civilians in two of Liberia’s political divisions, Bomi and Rivergee Counties are accusing soldiers of the Armed Force of Liberia (AFL) for brutalities since the Liberian leader, President George Manneh announced the 3pm lockdown throughout the country.
According to report aired on a local radio station, residents of Rivergee County complained that one of their colleagues who was severely flogged by soldiers of the AFL for violating the 3pm lockdown has reportedly gone blind, a situation the residents in the County said they are calling on authority of the Ministry of National Defense to launch an immediate investigation.
Similar incident has also taken place in Bomi County, Western Liberia where soldiers assigned there are said to be brutalizing civilians in the county, making specific reference on how AFL soldiers assigned at various checkpoints are allegedly demanding one to two thousands Liberian dollars before they can be allowed to pass through to wherever they want to travel to.
However, when the Assistant Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of National Defense, Sam Collins was contacted via mobile phone said there has been no complain brought forth to the Ministry from victims, but further noted that investigation will be launched in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
