Amid Celebration Of Christmas, Liberia’s Capital City, Monrovia Sinks In Dirt

Liberians and foreign residents residing the city of Monrovia amid the celebration of Christmas and New Year holidays are currently inhaling unhealthy breath due to the pile of huge pile of dirt in Monrovia and its environs, a situation that has been described by many first time visitors to Africa’s oldest cities as the dirtiest city.

The city center of Liberia’s capital including Center, Gurley streets and other parts have been overwhelmed by huge pile of dirt, some of which have swallowed the movement of vehicles as pedestrians inhale unhealthy stinks as a result of the filthiness of the country’s capital.

Recently a western diplomat voiced out the filthiness of the city, this asserting on the part of this diplomat did not go down well with some officials of Liberian government, including the Monrovia City Government headed by the youthful Mayor, Jefferson Tamba Koijee.

Mr. Laurent Delahousse, the Head of the European Union Mission in Liberia says Liberia’s capital city (Monrovia) is “dirty and disgusting” after the pouring in of donors’ aid to clean up the city. “Monrovia is a disgusting city, it is a dirty city.

Our reporters who toured the city of Monrovia and its environs could not believe the filthiness of Monrovia and other communities due to the visibility huge pile of dirt everywhere, with the question being asked as to where is the Mayor of the City of Monrovia?

With this ugly situation in the Capital City of Monrovia amid the increase of unpreventable illnesses including COVID-19 and now Omicron variant, it is worrisome for the future of Liberia and its people, it is important that the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) take this situation seriously in the healthy interest of our people and the image of Liberia.
