The Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Liberia, Prof. Dr. Josephus Moses Gray is calling on the faculty of the institution, to take advantage of the introduction of eLearning program to turn challenges into opportunity to make the 2019/2020 Special Academic Semester a successful one.
Addressing faculty of Liberia College at a One-Day Symposium Organized by the Office of the Dean of the College, under The Theme: “Turning Great Ideas Into Reality”, Dr. Gray reiterated the position of the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Julius S. Nelson that the eLearning program will play a pivotal role to enhance learning for students during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. Gray used the symposium to remind the Faculty of the University that the unprecedented COVID-19 has compared the administration of the University of Liberia, just as other academic institutions around the world, to shift it timelines, goals, and programs to meet up with students’ needs.
Describing the University as “Light of the Largest Society”, Dr. Gray noted that with the commitment being demonstrated by the devoted Faculty, the 2019/2020 2nd Semester is bound to be successful.
According to Dr. Gray, no one should doubt the ability of the school authorities to effectively and faithfully conduct the semester through eLearning.
The Dean also disclosed that Faculty and Students are held in high standard at the University, where research and effective teaching are cherished and promoted, and a high premium is placed on academic excellence and creative thinking.
During Monday’s Symposium, Dr. Gray presented and discussed highlights of the faculty data of the 15 academic departments of Liberia College. Among highlights were the number of Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Degrees holders, and gender distribution of the college.
Meanwhile, the President of the university, Dr. Julius S. Nelson, Jr, has disclosed that the introduction of eLearning at the nation’s Flagship University presents an opportunity for the students of the institution to continue their studies.
According to Dr. Nelson, the eLearning will afford all students of the nation’s flagship university including those residing out of the country’s opportunity to attend the university.
Speaking at a one-day symposium organized by the office of the dean of Liberia College, under the theme: “turning great ideas into reality”, Dr. Nelson point out that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the administration of university cannot afford to accommodate about twenty-thousand students on the university’s campuses.
At the same time, Dr. Nelson is calling on the students of the university to make use of the eLearning which he referred to as distance learning that enables students to continue their studies.
According to the UL President, the administration of the University has taken several measures include a waiver of readmission fees and a 20% waiver for Graduate students who paid 100% of their last semester fees. He, also, said other students who made 75% and 50% payment of their last semester fees will also be given 15% to 10% waiver this 2019/2020 2nd-semester academic year.
