In order to execute government’s mandate and implement health protocols prescribed by health authorities, Partners In Health in collaboration with the Maryland County Health Team has started visiting churches and mosques across the county, aimed at providing awareness about corona virus.
Speaking in an interviewed Sunday, 1st August 2021, following the first phase of the awareness tour, PIH Deputy Executive Director Viola Karanja said the purpose of the awareness was to reemphasize on the need to keep save by observing all of the health protocols prescribed by health authorities, and to get community dwellers and religious leaders fully involve into the campaign.
“We have organized this massive awareness campaign to visit the churches and mosques, to enable our people understand the importance of prevention, most especially the wearing of nose masks, social distancing and others; I am therefore encouraging all Liberians to fully participate in the fight against this deadly Corona Virus. She narrated.
On his part, Maryland CHO Dr. Methodius George disclosed that Maryland has recorded 96 confirmed cases of the virus.
He further explained that the number of cases came about from the volunteering testing done by health workers across the county.
He praised the citizens of Maryland County for the level cooperation and called on the public to remain calm.
The resurgence of the deadly virus has caused panic amongst citizens and residents of Liberia and has taken away the lives of several citizens including health workers across the country, thus preventing sick people from visiting health facilities due to fear.
Many sick people are thinking that they will be pronounced positive of COVID_19 if they visit the hospital for any medical checkup, especially when presenting similar signs and symptoms of the virus.
