The President of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA), Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe

The President of the Liberia National Bar Association, Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe has expressed disappointment the action of the Liberian government to arrest and detain the acting Chairman of the Council of Patriots (CoP), Menipakei Dumoe on the basis of ‘Face Book’ statement.

Speaking to judicial reporters Wednesday, May 13, 2020, the LNBA President has described as unfortunate the decision of the police and the National Security Agency to go after Mr. Domoe on a mare Face Book post that it termed as security threats.

He disclosed that Mr. Dumoe had earlier informed him that he has been charged with sedition by the Liberia government, and noted that he has called on the Liberian government not to use this situation to divert the minds of the Liberian people during the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Several others rights advocates have publicly condemned the action on the part of the Liberian government, calling it ‘Witch hunt’ for opposition political parties.
