A 33 year-old man identified as Momoh Kennedy has been arrested by the Lofa County detachment of the Liberia National Police for allegedly raping a three year-old girl in Savalahun Town, Kolahun District, Lofa County.

Kennedy was arrested on February 16 in Fangoda Town, Wanhasa District after allegedly committing the act against the three year-old child.

Defendant Kennedy allegedly committed the act when the child was left unattended to by her parents.

The Police in Lofa County has charged alleged perpetrator Kennedy with Statutory Rape and forwarded him to the Kolahun Magisterial Court for prosecution.

Statutory rape is a crime in violation of Chapter 14 section 14.70 of the revised penal code of Liberia.

During police preliminary investigation the defendant reportedly admitted voluntarily to committing the act.

Recent statistics from the Lofa County Gender Office indicates that there is an increase in Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) incidents across the county, with persistent non-support and domestic violence also topping the list.

The disclosure was made recently at a meeting organized by the Gender Ministry local office and partners in the county.
