PROVIDENCE, R.I.  — A 32-year-old Rhode Island man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison after admitting he advertised in a 14-year-old girl for sale to have sex.

Paul Monteiro, of Providence, R.I., previously pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Providence to a charge of sex trafficking of a minor, the Providence Journal reported. Chief Judge William E. Smith imposed the 12-year sentence on Monday, according to prosecutors.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Monteiro was arrested in April 2015 after Rhode Island State Police, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI tracked the missing teen’s cellphone to a motel room in Franklin Township and found him with the girl.

The victim told investigators Monteiro had posted an ad with her picture on and arranged for her to have sex with two people who responded, authorities said.
