Wollongong refugee Jay Jay Ganwaye is uncomfortable with the hero’s reception he gets when he returns to Monrovia in Liberia, but his effort to “educate a country” has earned him a special level of respect.
After establishing a school that provides free education to students in Gaye Town, Liberia, Mr Ganwaye called on some Wollongong friends to supercharge his charity’s efforts.
He even led them on a tour to his school late last year to show them firsthand how his Future of the Children organisation had changed the lives of West African students in a poor country recovering from conflict.
