Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, Standard Bearer of the Alternative National Congress, recently held a private meeting with a packed room of over 75 prominent members of the Liberian entertainment industry discussing his vision for Liberia, for Liberian music and its entertainment industry.
The forum, was led by Jonathan “Takun J” Koffa, Hip-CO legend and Montserrado County District 8 representative aspirant. Several other Liberian musicians, artists, producers, managers, models, and of the Liberian entertainment world attended the meeting including; Philipino King, Christoph the Change, C-Note, CoZ, SoulFresh, DJ Don and Former Ms. Liberia Brigitte Rouhama.
Attendees disclosed to Mr. Cummings and his team during the program, that it was the first time that a presidential candidate had reached out to them to hear about their needs, without an overriding expectation. Mr. Cummings received several unexpected revelations and endorsements of support for his race for presidency throughout the meeting.
His commitment to the artists, outside his personal love for music and entertainment, is due to the fact that his eldest daughter Ayo Cummings is an actress herself. Cummings explained to the artists that he can understand their struggle through his daughter, and realizes how important they are to Liberia and it’s culture.
Mr. Cummings, expressed that he was committed to helping Liberian artists become business people by helping them learn how to make money by leveraging technology and understanding the value of their content to free them from the dependence of sponsors or the government.
Cummings is currently supporting artists in Liberian, refusing to wait until he becomes president to act. He is personally sponsoring an industry workshop in Liberia in July. The workshop will be taught by some of the music industry’s international mover and shakers who happen to be close friends and long-time business partners of Cummings.
The workshop will focus on teaching Liberian entertainers how to brand/ market themselves, how they can be self-sufficient and earn real capital from their craft. He also disclosed that he would be investing in a state-of the-art sound system to be donated the entertainment industry of Liberia.
Takun J will be holding a petitioning ceremony for his run for representative of District 8, on May 13th on Slipway Football Field at 4pm in Monrovia.
