PATERSON – A Paterson police officer shot and killed a man who fired a weapon at the officer Friday afternoon, NorthJersey.com reported.
The shooting happened about 2 p.m. near the intersection of Fulton Place and E. 16th Street, on a block that is a mix of multi-family homes and small industrial buildings.
Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale referred questions about the shooting to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, which was not immediately available for comment.
A man working on a nearby rooftop said he heard shots and began taking several videos with his phone.
The recordings, which the man showed a reporter, did not capture a video of the actual shooting. One recording audio of about six rounds being fired.
Another shows a man being lifted off the ground and placed into the back of a police car. The man is surrounded by police and it is unclear if he is cuffed or if he is the man who was shot.
In addition to Paterson police officers, crime scene investigators and deputies with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene. Officers on the scene were focused on a silver minivan, and at least a dozen shell casings could be seen scattered on the ground.
