Boris Johnson brands Russia a ‘lifeline for Assad’s murderous regime’ after UN veto

Boris Johnson has expressed his “dismay” at Russia’s decision to veto a UN resolution condemning last week’s chemical weapons attack in Syria.

The Foreign Secretary said the move puts the Kremlin “on the wrong side of the argument” while it continues to act “as a lifeline for Assad’s murderous regime” in Syria.

Russia blocked a motion brought to the UN Security Council that would have required the Syrian government to cooperate with investigators following the attack in Idlib, which left 89 people dead and triggered retaliatory strikes by the United States.
