NEWARK — The last of the new automated screening lanes at Newark Liberty International Airport are scheduled to open Monday morning.

The 17 lanes can scan travelers in about two-thirds the time using powered conveyor belts that can hold bins 25 percent larger, according to the Transportation Security Administration. Five fliers can load luggage on the belts at the same time.
Two of the new lanes in Terminal C will continue to operate as standard screening lanes to handle oversize carry-on items (i.e.: strollers and baby carriers).
Four of the lanes opened Thanksgiving week.
Newark is the first of the New York City-area airports to open the “high-tech” security lanes.
