President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has reiterated her support to the presidential bid of Vice President Joseph N. Boakai.
The Liberian leader made the commitment at programs marking the 72nd birth anniversary of Vice President Boakai held Wednesday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Central Monrovia.
The occasion was organized by thousands of Lofa County citizens who recommitted themselves to their May 22, 2015 petition to the Vice President to contest the presidency in the 2017 elections.
President Sirleaf’s pronouncement rubbishes rumors that she is supporting an opposition candidate instead of the candidate of the ruling Unity Party.
“Joe (Boakai) remains the Standard Bearer of the ruling Unity Party and we are committed to working with him to ensure that he gets his just reward for working with us over these long years,” she said in a brief statement.
The Liberian leader drew cheers from the crowd as she danced to the happy birthday song that was being played in the background.
She was later gowned by the Joseph Boakai team.
Meanwhile, Vice President Boakai has reiterated his resolve to honor the call of his people to contest the presidency in 2017.
He vowed to put the country first when elected with the vision to improve on the gains already made by the UP-led Government.
