German authorities say a bogus Syrian asylum seeker arrested earlier this year was plotting a bomb outrage at the Brandenburg Gate — the biggest tourist draws in Berlin.
He had marked down the numbers of tour buses at several places to maximise death and injury to innocent people, prosecutors allege.
The 19-year-old was also considering a bomb attack at the nearby Reichstag and at the Alexanderplatz shopping precinct — another tourist hotspot.
The Federal Court of Justice released the information about the man, identified only as Shaas al-M and said to be a supporter of Islamic State, yesterday.
It said he scouted sites in February before passing on information, including crowd sizes and the number of tourist buses parked near targets at different times, to an IS contact in Syria.
