Turkish troops launched Operation Euphrates Shield on August 24 – a military operation with the aim of seizing control of the country’s border from ISIS and Kurdish-backed rebel groups.
The military campaign has freed Aleppo from the clutches of Daesh and is believed to have resulted in the seizure of a 56-mile corridor near the Turkish border within Syria, between the cities of Azaz and Jerabulus.
Political analyst Alexander Mercouris has suggested Turkey is attempting to create a safe zone in northeastern Syria as a base for jihadi groups supported by Washington and Ankara.
But critics have suggested Turkey’s military action in Syria is simply a pretext for the country seeking occupation of war-torn Syria. READ MORE OF THIS STORY
