It has been exactly two (2) months now since a Liberia writer; Martin Kollie wrote a letter to Malia and Sasha Obama outlining basic challenges facing teenagers, especially girls in Liberia. A businesswoman and humanitarian in the United States of America was just one of those who shared tears after reading this letter which was also published in local dailies and other online newspapers.
As a result, Freddie Smith has made it her business to assist or aid a Liberian family in need with US$130.00 (L$12,480.00) on a monthly basis. This amount could vary according to a communication sent to me. This gone week brought relief to Vivian Quiqui and her children of Careysburg after I made a presentation of US$130.00 as an assistance package.
Vivian Quiqui is a single mother who depends on subsistence farming and fishing to cater for her family. She is just one of those many single parents who struggles everyday to keep her family up, but things have really been rough. She was recommended to me by a former social worker of Save the Children International.
Upon receiving the package from Mr. Kollie, Vivian said “I am happy to benefit from this opportunity. At least it will help to send my children especially my girls to school this year. I was never expecting this, but I am grateful to you for thinking about me. May God bless the giver of this gift. I cannot just tell you how much I am happy.”
On behalf of Liberian families in need, we want to extend our earnest gratitude to Freddie Smith for making such a commitment, and we hope that others can begin to emulate such a shining example. It is not about how much wealth or power you have that matters in life, but helping those in need to achieve and succeed makes a lot difference.
Blessed are those who give to the needy. You can follow this link to access “Letter to Malia and Sasha Obama: Weeping Voices in Dying Valleys”
