The House of Representatives has for the second time convened separate sessions with House Speaker Alex Tyler presiding over one while Deputy Speaker Hans Barchue presided over the other.
It can be recalled that last Thursday, a group of representatives, led by the Deputy Speaker amidst their quest to unseat Tyler, held separate session in the Joint Chamber of the Capitol Building where a petition signed by 40 of them declared adopted Tyler’s recusal from presiding over sessions.
Attendance records from the two sessions Tuesday showed a total of 77 representatives, four more than the 73 electoral districts of Liberia, as the session presided over by Tyler accounted for 38 lawmakers while Barchue’s session listed 39.
The body presided over by Tyler reverted to “Executive Session” shortly after it was called to order, but Barchue presided over a rather elaborate session where several issues ranging from the education sector to the ongoing crisis among lawmakers were high on the agenda.
In a communication addressed to the body, Montserrado County Representative Henry Fahnbulleh petitioned the body to investigate Tyler over allegations that he has obstructed the functions of the Legislature by inviting some unknown individuals on the grounds of the Capitol to cause distraction.
Fahnbulleh contended that Tyler has also accused those calling for his recusal of receiving “inducements” from the President, an allegation which he termed as “grave and must be proven by Tyler” before the body.
Meanwhile, a four-member committee headed by Grand Bassa Representative Baron Browne, has been constituted to probe the allegations raised against Tyler and report to the body in a week.
