Mother of Briton accused of attempting to shoot Donald Trump fears her ‘son will die in prison’

The mother of Michael Sandford, the boy who tried to assassinate Donald Trump, has admitted that she fears her son “will die in prison”, during today’s Good Morning Britain.

Lynne Sandford appeared on the early morning news show where she gave her plea to Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh, desperately hoping the 18-year-old will be brought to justice here in the United Kingdom, rather than across the pond.

Michael, who was diagnosed with autism as a child, is accused of attempting to grab a police officers’ gun and shoot the presidential candidate during a Republican rally in Las Vegas earlier this year. He is due to go on trial later this month.

“I’ve finally been able to establish phone conversations with [Michael] in the last few days, and he’s not at all good,” the terrified parent told the GMB duo. “He’s very bewildered, very scared and frightened, he’s on suicide watch which he’s been on for three weeks and he just kept breaking down on the phone saying he can’t cope.”

Lynne confessed that there was “no excuse” for Michael’s actions, but she stressed: “He is not a bad person, he’s got autism, OCD, anorexia, depression, anxiety; so there are a lot of mental health issues at play, he’s ill.
