Turkey says it has lost $850 mln on Russian tourists

turk3KazTAG – Turkey has lost $840 mln on Russian tourists, reports the association of tourism operators of Russia.

“Drop of Russian tourism flow in the first half year 2016 by 87% cost Turkey $840 mln,” reports lenta.ru with a reference to the association.

In the first half year 184 000 tourists from Russia visited the state, almost 8 times down year on year (1.5 mln people). Totally since January until June 2016 Turkey got $9 bn from tourism ($12.6 bn in the same period 2015).

According to the Turkish statistics institution, in the second quarter the revenues from tourism industry dropped by 35.6% year on year, to $5 bn. It has been the lowest level since 1999. According to the experts the drop is connected with security problems and sharp drop of travelers from Russia.

Experts believe by the results of the year the loss will make not less than $5 bn, and it will weaken the GDP by 0.5%.
