(LINA) – The Cabinet has carefully reviewed the status updates on key benchmarks in the areas of roads, ports, water and sanitation, education as well as Task Force performance covering agriculture and agro-processing and manufacturing and business support.
The Cabinet also threatened punitive action against any member of the executive involved in budget manipulation and mandated a vigorous and aggressive Sector Ministers-led Town Hall meeting on education and information-dissemination campaigns.
According to an Executive Mansion release, Cabinet took note of the status updates on roads, ports, water and sanitation, education and related Task Force performance projects and mandated proper and effective coordination initiatives that will translate into realizable outcomes for the benefit of the nation and its people.
Cabinet also received update on the Draft National Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, which seeks to provide sustainable development of fisheries resources and the proper management and control of fisheries for present and future generations.
The fisheries sector will effectively contribute to economic growth and development – 12% to agriculture GDP; 3% to National GDP; 65% to protein intake, and has the potential for employment as well as investment and revenue.
Cabinet also received final update on the upcoming July 26 celebrations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – accordingly reporting progress and that all is now set for the successful hosting of the country’s 169th Independence Anniversary.
The National Orator of this year’s National Independence Day celebration is Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan; a Liberian research scientist residing in the United States who has invented a diagnostic test that can detect and distinguish seven different viruses at a time.
Dr. Nyan hails from River Gee County.
Amid the ongoing national budget debate process, cabinet has mandated that punitive action awaits any line Minister who engages in budget manipulation process while being subject to the vetoing of the specific unauthorized appropriation, which runs contrary to the draft budget originally submitted to the National Legislature.
Meanwhile, at the heels of standing ovation cum applause – Cabinet greeted Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on his ascendancy to the position of Standard-bearer of the ruling Unity Party (UP).
Addressing Members of Cabinet, Vice President Boakai thanked the President for her courageous democratic stance to lead the way for a peaceful transfer of authority from one civilian Head of State to another since the take over from President Barclay to Tubman in 1944.
In a related development, at the directive of Cabinet, the conduct of sector Minister-driven Town Hall meetings for public engagement and education purposes will be led by the Director General of the Cabinet, Jordon Sulonteh in partnership with the Minister of Information, Lenn Eugene Nagbe with the aim of driving major deliverables accomplished on the watch of the administration.
