{VOA NEWS Online} -Three police officers were shot and killed and three others wounded Sunday morning in the southern U.S. city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after at least one masked gunman dressed in black opened fire with an assault rifle.

Early details remain sketchy. But authorities later said one suspect was killed, with a fourth officer reported in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police launched a massive manhunt for other suspects and were seen converging on the shooting scene less than 2 kilometers from police headquarters as a helicopter circled nearby.

Hours after the shootings, authorities said the officers came under fire at a convenience store and that a suspect’s body was later found nearby. READ MORE OF THIS REPORT
