{BNN/LONDON, U.K. } – The man responsible for the killing of MP Jo Cox reportedly was found to have long-standing ties with a U.S.-based neo-Nazi organisation, National Alliance.

According to reports, Southern Poverty Law Center investigators probing into the murder of Cox in Birstall, near Leeds, found that the attacker, locally known as Tommy Mair, had also ordered a book in 1999 on how to make a gun and improvised explosives.

It was added that the law center released receipts, on June 16, showing payments of $620 made towards National Vanguard Books, the National Alliance’s publishing house, for materials.

Further, police have reportedly not disclosed the attacker’s motive, but family members have told experts that Mair had a history of mental illness.

Reports added that witnesses claimed that a group of onlookers during the incident surrounded the attacker, “stopping him from reloading and shooting more people.”

After he “shot her once, then shot her again – and shot her once more,” Mair lunged towards those attempting to disarm him, taking swings at them with his knife.

As more people ganged up around him, Mair was reportedly forced to flee down a one-way street.

Reports state that in the light of Cox’s murder, the hashtag #ThankyourMP has been trending on social media, as citizens begin to acknowledge the harassment faced by Members of Parliament in the U.K.

One MP reportedly said that, “Death threats and images of sexual torment have become part of the job for our MPs.”

Cox was reportedly testament to this as she was subjected to three months of harassment earlier in 2016, in spite of which she carried on with her duties.

Investigators have reportedly confirmed that the man responsible for sending malicious communications to Jo Cox is not the same as the attacker currently under arrest for her death. READ MORE OF THIS REPORT
