{BNN /TEHRAN, Iran} – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has claimed that America is the prime enemy of Tehran and has said that cooperating with America goes “against the independence” of Iran.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Khamenei told thousands of Iranians gathered at the event that trusting the U.S. would be “a big mistake.”
He declared that Iran would not formally cooperate or host talks with U.S. against any sort of joint fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group.
Khamenei further claimed that despite the nuclear deal that came into effect this year, Iran has “many small and big enemies, but foremost among them is America.” Britain and Israel too were named as enemies.
U.S. this year, lifted an economic sanction placed on Iran with Iran agreeing to put a stopper on its nuclear program.
