The Coordinator of Leprosy, Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV programs on the Nimba County Health Team has called on residents to report prolonged coughing by individuals to the nearest health facility.
Last year, there were more than 500 TB cases recorded in Nimba County, while an additional 100 cases have been reported within the first six months of this year.
“This is to avoid the spread of the tuberculosis disease among other Liberians in this part of Liberia,” Joe B. Beangar said.
The health worker made the call Tuesday at the Nimba Youth Network -Recreation Center in Sanniquellie when Africare, in partnership with the County Health Team, trained some medical workers in active TB case finding and administration of drugs to TB patients.
The Liberian health system has control measures and treatment for the dangerous air borne disease if the residents report individuals having the symptoms, he assured citizens in Sanniquellie.
The training brought together six district health officers, while an additional 500 general community health volunteers across the county will be trained in the near future.
